1st February 2007 - Thaipusam

Those pictures were taken by using my Motorola E1070.

1st February was public holiday for Federal Territory of Wilayah Persekutuan and Thaipusam. Irene has called me to pay a visit at Batu Caves to see the celebration which she hasn’t experience and so am I. She wanted to take some photographs with my FM2 camera with a high ISO that she bought. So I was happy to go with her in the midnight after had difficulty in transportation.

We reached at the nearby roadside of the Batu Caves at about 2am++. There were a lot of people crowded the roads as well with the jammed. We were hanged out around for 4hours on the road that we weren’t had the chance to go into the Batu Caves’ entrance compound. It was terrible sandwiched with people which stucked the way of the entrance. We couldn’t enter but walked back to the river bank to see those devotees cleanse and get pierced by carrying various types of kavadi (burdens) with vel skewers. The most spectacular practice is the vel kavadi, essentially a portable altar up to two meters tall, decorated with peacock feathers and attached to the devotee through 108 vels pierced into the skin on the chest and back.

Anyhow, I didn’t bring the Digi-camera along as I was lazy to bring and no intention to take pictures that time. I was thinking of looking around but I took some photos with my camera-phone.

After we got tired and had enough of watching and photographing, we went to mamak nearby which opened 24hrs for a rest. The celebration wasn’t end till the next day. People still was coming in for praying.

Later on, I wanted to have light tim-sum at KL. We went to have our early breakfast for tim-sum. Chit-chat then spontaneously we think of places to go. Irene shows me where is the “Eye of Malaysia’ which is situated at Titiwangsa. It was a huge ferries wheel in the centre of the park. It was huge. Then we headed to KL Tower as we both haven’t visit the place. It opened at 9am. We reached there at about 8am++ and we were hanging around the area to take some photos. At sharp 9am, we bought our tickets at the counter and went up to the Observation Tower. We spent an hour sight-seeing around and took photos.

After that we headed to Maju Junction for a little shopping. At 1 something in the afternoon, we headed home. Nearly 12 hours that we didn’t sleep. It was a good experience though it tiring but it was fun!
