The 3rd Generation

Watched 'The 3rd Generation' at GSC Mid Valley yesterday night. The movie was boring and dragging but it didn't make Michael into sleep. That was weird. Maybe because he complained that the seat was not comfortable as in GSC 1Utama.

The movie is about the secret affair of Chan's 3rd son and the complexity of the forefathers to the current generation.

Let's talk about the director/producer of the movie - C.L.Hor, who was an advertising art director, won some awards on Malaysian Airlines, Telekom Malaysia and Benson & Hedges campaigns. He also began with his directing in MTV spots. He spent 4 years in Hong Kong in film industry and garnered awards for his works. Then he came back to Malaysia and began directing TV commercial spots and into this movie with imaginative visual styles.

So, imagine from an advertising art director to a film director with innovative composition visual styles of directing. I found it something similar with Wong Kar Wai, the director of '2046' and 'In The Mood of Love'. In their movies were the artistes talking less and in a slow mannered but more in the conceptual visual scenes like an art photograph.

As for the artistes, Nicholas Teo was charming in the movie and he done a great job in acting, not bad at all. For Carmen Soo, she was gorgeous. She looked amazingly in those costumes, the chinese traditional clothes. I didn't aware that she was in a cameo role in Jackie Chan's movie 'Gorgeous'. Astonishingly. And for Amber Chia, hmmm... I think she is better in those commercial prints. Her acting was not as good as for a beginner. She doesn't have the talent and she doesn't look good in the movie. It looks weird. I prefer her in the photos or prints which bring out the visual/idea.

In 'The 3rd Generation' movie showed the little notes/idioms/phrases that are meaning to the scenes if you do really understand. I found the little notes interesting that bring out into the real life. Too bad I can't remember much but they are meaningful.

Overall rating for this movie, I will give 2.5/5. Based on the conceptual visual/colours and the little notes. Storyline is not as good for the movie-goers.
